what lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us - Emerson

A new blog - a fresh start - new thoughts - reviving my heart - it's been rough lately - i decided to start a new blog - to focus on positive thoughts - to remind me to practice mindfulness - each day is a fresh start - each and every moment we have the ability to make choices - we are not locked into anything - we can change - we can grow - we can become better at living

This brings me to mention my buttons - buttons have been collecting in a bag in my studio for decades - I've never really known what to do with them - I couldn't part with them - so I thought I'd give them a reason to live - they are going to be sewn into a chain on a peace (piece) of caramel coloured vinyl - I will meditate upon each button as i sew - thinking a positive thought - until i have a set of beads I can wear - a set of beads to remind me to be positive - to practice mindfulness - a set of beads/buttons that I can pray and meditate with - in the hope of attaining a level of positivity through the practice of perservering with positive thoughts - I believe focusing on the negative produces some negative outcomes - focusing on the positive allows you to make decisions that are perhaps more rational and less reactive - I would love for you to join me in my venture - an open invitation to all

Find your buttons - wherever they might be hiding - in old draws, etc, and sew them into a cushion, a throw rug, a dress, a vest, a necklace - as you sew them onto your garment - look only for happy memories and thoughts and dwell on a positive quote - such as the one above in the title -
what lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us - Emerson

meditation on button number three

If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to. If you are not afraid of dying, there is nothing you cannot achieve.

meditation on button number two

What's it all about? read more here....http://karintaylorsewpositive.blogspot.com/
today I have sewn button number two onto my necklace to be while meditating on the passage below from Ralph Waldo Emerson, it's really speaking to me ...

Be not the slave of your own past. Plunge into the sublime seas, dive deep and swim far, so you shall come back with self-respect, with new power, with an advanced experience that shall explain and overlook the old.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I think that Ralph Waldo Emerson must have been one of the wisest of all of mankind, i go back to his quotes again and again, and they all make so much sense and feel tried and true.  I love this quote, it gives me/you permission to move on and not senselessly detract from today with feelings of guilt for past mistakes or wrongs, we do not have to be a slave to that......instead, we can take the plunge to reinvent ourselves, to start afresh each day, valuing the old as simply experience, knowing now you/I have the understanding to go one better and not fall into old ways of being, old patterns of behaving, we can do it... there's always hope, a second chance, a light at the end of the tunnel, the sun behind a cloud... all misery is transitory

Meditation on button number one

My very first button sewn on to the cord which will in time, become a set of button beads that i will wear to remind me to practice mindfulness, and i hope that through this process i will come to learn off by heart, many wise quotes and positive calmisms that will work toward me finding a more balanced and peaceful existence - today it was a lovely time, having my very first meditation while sewing the button on, while I considered this quote by Emerson, that what lies behind and ahead are small things in comparison to what we are inside, this puts everything into perspective.  Feeling blessed
